In year 3 of my studies my project team and I were asked to make an app for the fairphone community. Fairphone wanted an app where they could bring their community together, build a stronger community and enlarge their target group. Fairphone is focused on building phones that are more environmentally friendly, more suistainable and you can replace parts yourself.
To make sure the app fitted the mission of Fairphone we made an app where people can do tasks that enhance their conscious on the environment alone or with the community. With doing these tasks they collect points, where the community tasks are worth more points. With these points, they can save for a gift. This can be a tree, adopt a sealion or anything else where you can further help the world.
Fairphone is also focused on the privacy of its users and doesn’t share data with other companies, unless there is given specific consent for this by its users. Since I am also very interested in data protection and I think more companies should value their costumer’s privacy I focused mostly on the privacy part of the app.
The profile page is mostly focused on whether users want to share their data, with whom they want to share their data and to what extent. There is a delete button present so users can delete their account and data easily. When you make an account the most important part of the terms and conditions are made clear by icons and short amount of text, because who reads all the terms and conditions of an app or website.
For this project I worked together with Rajeev, Mark and Sybren. The first few weeks we did research on fairphone as a brand and their users. We made a prototype and tested this to see how users would respond to the prototype and incorporated this feedback into our design.
To demonstrate how we came to our end product we made a trail of evidence. In this document you can read how my project team and I came to the most important conclusions and why we made the app this way. Also in this document you can find some of our research.
